Tours in Latvian Television

When you were a child, perhaps you crawled behind the television set to find out where the things you saw on screen were originating amongst the wires and cables that were back there. Perhaps your children are doing the same right now? Why not take a tour of Latvian Television to bring childhood dreams to life? Our tours will be interesting for mom, dad and the kids!
The first television set in Latvia looks so funny today – a screen size of only 18 cm. The image used to be enhanced with a lens that was filled with distilled water or glycerine!
What did the clock which appeared before the “Panorama” news programme look like 50 years ago?
Just look at the enormous television cameras which first brought the world to Latvia, the lights which light up our studios!
Remember the experiences of Latvian Television during the barricades in the winter of 1991. You’ll see knives which were used to prepare sandwiches for the guards of Zaķusala, and you’ll get a sense of what was really supposed to happen there?
You will be able to see your favourite childhood heroes and learn what’s going on with them now. You’ll see the costume designs for “Clearing the Fields for Destiny” and “The Sweet Taste of Poison”.
You’ll be able to look at the oldest and newest television equipment which LTV has at its disposal to edit broadcasts.
You will also see the studios from which your favourite shows are broadcast and even have a chance to sit down in the chair from which LTV news anchors deliver the news each evening.
A tour of Latvian Television and its museum is always exciting. The museum at Latvian Television at Zaķusala has been assembled gradually since the early 1990s, and today it is the only television museum in Latvia. The museum offers a look at the way in which television appeared in Latvia, the first newsreaders, the broadcasts, and the people who have been the face of Latvian Television over the course of the last 50 years and more. There are exhibits featuring television equipment. A unique collection of old-time television sets has been brought together from places all over Latvia. Latvian Television guarantees an interesting time for one and all!
Four charming guides are on hand to walk you through the museum – Selga Bedrīte and Dagnija Keturka.
